This Mexican Taco Beef recipe can be served in more ways than one. In our cookbook Dinner Table Family Headquarters I share a recipe – Taco Delicioso on page 100 that I have made for my family for years. It’s quite simple because the spices are prepackaged in the taco seasoning mix. I didn’t have that mix in my pantry today but I was determined to make this dish for dinner. I decided to jump out of my comfort zone and combine my own Mexican blend of spices. I got creative and used salsa sauce (instead of plain tomato sauce) and black beans. I was going for the hearty Fall dinner. Super delicioso! Family loved dinner and I’m a happy mama!
1 ½ lbs ground beef
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp ground cumin
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp sea salt
16 oz salsa sauce – mild or spicy – cooks choice
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the beef in the skillet until browned and break apart with a utensil as it is browning. This should take about 5 to 10 minutes.
- Season the beef with all the spices: onion powder, cumin, garlic powder, and sea salt. Mix completely, than add the salsa sauce to the beef mixture. Simmer for 10-20 minutes.
We ate the beef in taco shells with a few condiments to add as toppings.
Guacamole, shredded lettuce and non-dairy sour cream were perfecto! You can definitely add shredded cheese as a topping, too. Non-dairy is the way to go if you are following a kosher lifestyle.
